ROMANTIC CHAMBER MUSIC AND SONG TO BE FEATURED IN AMES TOWN & GOWN'S 12TH ANNUAL WINTER MUSICALE
The Ames Town & Gown Chamber Music Association will host its twelfth annual winter musicale with a special evening of romantic chamber music and song on February 10. This event is eagerly anticipated each season, not only for its potpourri of musical delights, but also for its lavish offerings of dessert delicacies following the performance.
Both the musical and culinary aspects of the evening are prepared and donated by supporters and friends of Town & Gown, and all proceeds go toward programming the upcoming concert season.
The performers for the Town & Gown musicale traditionally include some of our area's finest musicians. This year’ our roster features the Ames Piano Quartet, mezzo-soprano Mary Creswell, baritone James Tener, oboist Kevin Schilling, clarinetist Joseph Messenger, and pianists Paula Forrest, Sue Haug, and Paul Pisano.
Ames Town & Gown's artistic director Paula Forrest, who produces this annual event, chose this year a romantic theme because of the date's proximity to Valentine's Day. Since the word "romantic" can be interpreted in several ways, the program will feature music about love, as well as music from the 19th-century (the Romantic era). She says, "Our audience can expect everything from chamber music of Brahms and Schumann to virtuosic instrumental showpieces, to love songs from Broadway."
The musicale will take place in the Parish Hall of St.John's By the Campus Episcopal Church, 2338 Lincoln Way, Ames. Ample parking is available in an adjoining lot. Admission to the Ames Town & Gown Winter Musicale is $25. Tickets and information are available from Jane Ringwald, 5506 Valley Road, Ames, IA 50014, 232-2863. A limited number of tickets may also be available at the door.
